Overall very disappointing and leery to do business with them again. Emailed Albert and asked if he could purchase 30 to 50k in precious metals mostly gold and silver coins and bars. Albert did respond right away but once I got to their store it went drastically downhill from there. I was surprised the store is a little more than a 200 square foot room. While I was impressed by Albert's reviews my actual experience was nowhere near 5 stars which makes my suspect the accuracy of the other reviews. I had brought about 48K in precious metals to sell which I had a detailed inventory of prior to selling. Albert's staff seemed inexperienced and they counted and "tested" all of my items in a back unseen room outside of my view. Albert said testing would take hours. They came back in 20 minutes. I knew what I had and had detailed records. One of Albert's employees seemed very much in a rush. It turns out it was his birthday and he said "I am just trying to get out of here as it's my birthday" Meanwhile I am in a different room in their "store" and they hurriedly weighed and counted my silver, gold, platinum and palladium and immediately made a $1000 mistake as counting over an once of platinum as silver. Silver is worth $14 an once while platinum over $1000 on once. They came back into the main room with a post it note of value. I have never seen anything so unprofessional. A post it note. Really? I asked what the value of my platinum was which I knew that weight of and Albert said "what platinum?" They then allowed me into the back room which was a disorganized 10x10 room and I went through my items and showed them the $1000 they missed. I was taken aback as Albert made a big deal as they "test" everything with a laser. In the back room I never saw any laser. Anyone who has ever owned or purchased a coin knows the difference from a silver or platinum eagle. It's about a $1000 difference in real value. Not only did his employee not notice the difference neither Albert or his guy knew the going price and had to call "some other guy". Extremely annoyed at this point I went through my own items myself to verify their count which I still suspect is in error in the amount I was paid. They came back into the main room which is more like a hallway than a store and gave me another post it note of values and it did not even include the platinum that I had pointed out. I knew what I had and it's value. At this point I heard Albert go back to the closet they call an office and berate his employee. "F You...F This...I am going to Fing fire you...if this f*ing customer walks you are f*ing fired". Albert came back and said this guy has been with me for 7 years but if we lost your business I would fire him now on his birthday. As a business owner with over 100 employees I have never heard a boss berate someone. I just assume this employee is used to it and that's the real reason he is rushing to get out not that is was it birthday. Birthday or not I feel cheated. Happy birthday to me! This employee ended up saying "sorry, it's my birthday I am just trying to leave early" Well wonderful, Why did Albert schedule my appointment at 5 pm knowing he did not have the capacity nor expertise to properly and thoroughly evaluate my sizable sale? Will never go there again. My advise to Albert and his employee is do not over commit to things you can not deliver and count and sort a customers items in front view not in a sketchy back room.

I left just pissed off at the whole experience wondering if I was the one who actually got F&^ked. Happy Birthday to me!

Albert truly is phenomenal. He took the time to go thru all my items and paid me top dollar. I am in a very bad situation and needed the money so I shopped it around. Albert was highest price out there. Incredibly higher than a few shops. Thank you for your integrity and honesty!

As I have dealt with virtually every numismatic dealer in the Chicago area, I can easily say Gold & Jewelry Direct in Algonquin is the worst establishment in every dimension. Basically, the place is a cross between a low-end pawn shop and a used car dealership. Their routine is actually comedic. If you are interested in being entertained go there.

My first experience with the owner of Gold & Jewelry Direct was on the phone as I attempted to ask some basic pricing questions that any legitimate dealer could easily answer in 15 seconds. Of course, he obfuscated and suggested he was too busy to answer a simple question, which was the price of a very common NGC graded $20 gold piece. What was laughable and dishonest is his claim that all grading is different. The truth is there are only two [major] reputable grading agencies - NGC and PCGS. But alas, I had to come in person because of such variabls.

When I ultimately arrived against my better judgement, the shady staff person wasted 25 minutes of my time calling his boss *repeatedly* (above), trying to analyze the sealed, graded coin (basically unecessary) and telling me how they had 13 of the exact same coin in their vault. Again, the subterfuge was very much like a used car dealership. I can't imagine anyone wanting to do business with this business if they understood better alternatives exist.

Great Coin shop! They paid me best price. I went to few different stores to check around. I wish I would have checked reviews before going. Would have saved me a lot of time. Albert was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. He went over my large coin collection and priced everything out. I recommended to few of my buddies already and now I want to recommend to others.
