Hello! I'm Austin psychologist Lee A Edwards. I do therapy with adult individuals and couples. The fit between you and your therapist is very important, so I'll try here and on my web site to tell you what I can about my approach to therapy. I work with people on a wide variety of concerns. I tend to be most interested in the big themes that have big impact--self-acceptance, self-worth, relationships, ways of working with emotions, etc. I'm interested in the patterns of how people respond to challenges: do you tend to obsess? Get angry? Tell yourself you're special? When we work at this level--the level of character style--we can achieve results that are profound and will benefit you for the rest of your life. I see a lot of couples and feel very strongly about helping people improve communication and connection. Most of us derive most of our meaning in life through relationships with others, and couples counseling is a powerful way to improve relationships. Communication tends to be the main focus in couples counseling, though of course we also work on specific topics such as money or parenting. Clients seem to see me as warm, informal, easy to talk to, attentive, supportive, but also appropriately challenging.
