Their lack of care led to the death of my mother.

In February of 2008, my family transferred my mother from Arizona into Bel Tooren Villa in order for her to be closer to us. Had we known in advance what horrible care they provide, we would never have transferred her. Upon her arrival, Bel Tooren decided she didn't need to get up everyday. So they put her wheelchair in storage, claiming that they couldn't find the battery charger, and they left her in bed.

Weeks went by and we didn't question them. We tried to get her a battery charger but had no luck. Then one day I happened to be in her closet and found that her battery charger had been shoved towards the back of the closet out of view. This was promptly brought to the attention of the nursing staff and they were told we'd be filing a complaint if they didn't start getting her up.

We should've filed the complaint. They never did get her up.

During her seven month stay at Bel Tooren she was hospitalized twice for bedsores. The first time, they didn't even call us to notify us that she'd been admitted. The second time the nurse from Bel Tooren blatantly lied to my brother about how many bed sores she had. First it was 5 then another nurse said 6 then one said 3....

And then there was the call....it was two days before my Mother's birthday and she had been admitted into the hospital for pneumonia. Upon admittance, they'd learned that she had a blood infection as well as the pneumonia. About an hour after arrival, her heart stopped and they did CPR (against her Advance Directive wishes). We rushed to the hospital and found her in ICU on life support. She died that night. Two days shy of her 52nd birthday.

I will never forgive Bel Tooren. Their lack of care caused the death of my Mother.

1. They left her in bed, flat on her back (she was quadriplegic).

2. Their care or rather lack thereof led to several deep bed sores. So deep that she had to have surgery.

3. Anytime she complained to us and we brought it to their attention, their excuse was that my Mother was senile.

Don't put your family through this! Choose a better nursing facility!
