- Child Custody and VisitationOn Thursday, the Alabama Senate passed a bill sponsored by Senator Garlan Gudger requiring hospitals and nursing homes in the state to permit patients’ visitors to enter the facilities under specific circumstances. The bill also allows patients to choose one designated support person who can regularly visit them during their stay in a hospital or nursing home. It is important to note that the named support person can be changed on a daily basis. The bill passed the Senate without opposition and is now awaiting approval from the Alabama House of Representatives. This bill will be known as the Harold Sachs and Anne Roberts Act in honor of the late Harold Sachs, a former Chief of Staff for the Alabama Republican Party, and the late Anne Roberts, wife of Mountain Brook Senator Dan Roberts.
