I was provided a $160 out of pocket cost estimate for my procedure which was paid in full on the day of my surgery. Three months later, I received a $630 bill from Dr. Gardner's office. The 'Office Manager' told me that I had to talk to my insurance agent to find out why I was being billed. I spoke to my insurance company and they said that the office had submitted my claim with Box 27 left blank instead of indicating the number of quadrants that were operated on. The fix was to submit the claim with Box 27 filled in according to my agent. I asked the 'Office Manager' to let me know if there were any problems. Rather than tell me the 2nd submission was also rejected, they sent the same bill to me with no explanation. Rather than contact me directly about the rejected 2nd submission, their Office Manager sent my bill to a debt collector. Now I'm paying $790 for my $120 estimated procedure and I get a notch out of my outstanding credit rating. Do not trust this office when they provide you with an 'estimate' because they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. They will not tell you that they cannot accurately predict (within hundreds of dollars) what an insurance agent will actually cover until after they send you the bill. If this is Dr. Gardner's idea of professionalism, he needs to go back to school.
