The Cheshire Police Department is a law enforcement agency that preserves peace, protects residents lives and their property, arrests law violators and enforces measures to prevent crime. It supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The Cheshire Police Department employs a staff of more than 55 full-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. The department maintains patrol, traffic, investigation and administrative service divisions. The Cheshire Police Department operates the Special Response Team (SRT), which deals with high-risk and dangerous situations, including barricaded persons, high-risk warrant arrests, explosive devices and heavily armed criminals.
