Gem Electric Supply, Inc got its start in February of 1970, when partners Bill Conrad and John Manning bought an electrical supply store at 3143 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park. They also bought an empty building at 10334 S. Michigan Ave. in Roseland. With much hard work, and many long hours, both stores began to thrive. In 1975, when the owners of Glacier Furniture, located at 3135 W. 95th St. wanted to retire, Bill and John bought the building and moved the Evergreen Park branch to where it remains today. In May of 1976, we purchased Maywood Electric Supply at 1913 W. Roosevelt Road in Broadview. Expansion was put on the back burner until August of 1987, when we opened our Archer Avenue branch at 4784 S. Archer Ave. in Chicago, which had previously been an auto parts store. Seven years later in August of 1994, we purchased Industry Lighting at 11400 S. Cicero Ave. in Alsip. It was after purchasing the larger showroom in Alsip that we were able to expand our inventory to include televisions, mattress sets, furniture, and art. In April of 2008, we finally came into the computer age and started our own website. We also increased our product base to include hardware, industrial cleaning supplies, power tools, outdoor furniture, and just about anything you could want!! We are very proud to say that Gem Electric Supply, Inc is a family owned and operated company. While the second generation has been running the business for the last twenty years, the third generation is starting to contribute to the company's success. We are also proud of our quality suppliers: Ashley Furniture, Casablanca Fans, Eaton, Ideal, Kichler, Klein Tools, Murray Feiss, Progress, Quoizel, and Schonbek, just to name a few. We have come a long way since Bill and John bought that first store, and we've tried hard to live up to the standards they set.
