Bad Experience

I took my dogs in to get heart guard tested and considering I have no clue how this procedure is done, I was pretty upset since they had me set in the waiting room while they took my dogs back one by one. I did ask after hearing my dog screaming, how is this test done and why do they not ever let me go back with my dogs. "this is the second time, first time was when I got their rabbis shots" . I have never met Dr. Scott and am not sure if she is the one that keeps coming and getting my dogs and taking them back. I am sorry, but these dogs are my family and I never sent my kids back to see the Dr. alone, nor do I think I should send my dog back alone! I feel they could have better customer service; try to get to know their customers better and keep them more informed. I do care how my dogs are treated ; and just because they are a vet clinic, doesn't mean I need to trust them. I will be finding a different Vet to take my dogs to.

calmed down

I had a long discussion with my coworker about my experience and want to give a more accurate picture than my last review. My coworker has been going to Prairie Lake for some time over issues with his German Shepard and swears up and down by this Vet, further he said he knows multiple people that do the same. They supposedly do great with large purebreds where my dog is about knee high-stocky mostly Am Staff. She is not only a very inflexible dog but has turned into a huge drama queen in an attempt to get extra attention since I got a second dog a couple months ago. One time she yelped and started whimpering while holding up her paw and looking at me. When I took a look I found a small rock was stuck between her toes. Even though I was very uncomfortable when she was being examined because it looked like the vet was hurting her, the reality is that he probably wasn't used to handling dogs that are as inflexible as she is and further, she may have just been uncomfortable and thought if she whimpered I would make him stop. I did not delete my last review because it highlights what can happen when you don’t fight hard enough to get all relevant information in your vets head-even when they are talking non-stop or don’t seem to have time. If Dr. Morrow had known that she is not very flexible, maybe he would have been more careful not to strain her shoulder in the first place, and maybe the vet at Prairie Lake would have been more careful while examining her. Further, it would have been helpful for the vet to know that she will whimper for lots of different reasons other than actual pain, so he could have talked to her and petted her a little before handling her in order to reduce stress so she wouldn't get scared and start reacting.

Either incompetent or a con

I took my dog to Prairie Lake after Dr. Morrow at Clovis Vet Hos on 7th strained her right shoulder trying to sedate her for stiches in her back leg. It had been several weeks and it still hurt her to walk down steps and she couldn’t jump down out of my truck. One of the times I lifted her out I put my front hand/arm between her shoulders and when she got on the ground she just stood there holding her right leg out to the side and couldn’t move at all for some time. That is when I realized it was her shoulder that was injured. The Dr. at Prairie Lake hyper-extended her elbows and made her whimper. I was thinking when he was doing it that it looked like what he was doing was what was hurting her but he said “see how her elbows are hurting…” he said that because it was “in both elbows” she likely had the degenerative disease elbow dysplasia and needed x-rays. He said “oh that vet didn’t hurt her…” Luckily my deployment schedule started flexing and I was forced to canx my appointment for x-rays in order to get my dogs settled in IL. I took her to Dr. Ceglinski in Paducah Ky. I only told him that “the vet” said she had elbow dysplasia and needed x-rays. After Dr. Ceglinski did a quick check he looked at me and said flatly “it’s not her elbows it’s her shoulder!” My jaw about hit the floor, all I could say was “that’s what I thought”. He said that dogs take a long time to recover from soft tissue injuries because they will not rest, and there is no point taking x-rays because all you can see is bone… Thank goodness I was able to find a vet that knew what he was doing and wasn’t a con-too bad he’s not local!

Great place

I have had nothing but great experiences here. The Dr. and staff do their best to take care of my pets. I know that one person had a bad experience, but I know that, having worked in the medical field myself, even the best disinfecting doesn't get everything. Maybe the dog with parvo had just come into the office and been diagnosed. The staff would not have had time to inform you if they just found out themselves. I have never had anything but the best experiences at this office and would recommend it to anyone who wants compassionate and quality care.

Horrible Experience

Took my puppies in to have their 1st set of shots, I overheard the nurse in the back talking about parvo while I was in the waiting area. Guess what, all my pups came down with parvo 6 days later. After weeks of treatment, expense, and heartbreak they did not make it. I will NEVER go here again. Nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone. Shame on them for not disinfecting properly!!!!!!! Shame on them for not using better judgement and rescheduling my appointment, but rather just let me take my newborn pups in anyway, regardless of PARVO present in the clinic. My recommendation is David Hudson at All Pets Animal Hospital.

Roper and Mylee Love it!

My dogs Roper and MyLee love going to Prairie Lake Vet Clinic. The staff is great and friendly and Dr. Dawkins is a very caring and helpful doctor. They will go the distance to help you and your pets. They can provide you with the care you need for just about anything.

Good Stuff

Great care for the animals and services. The Vet seems quite knowledgable about the critters he sees. A little pricey but what isnt in this day and age.
