Fine Art Finger Painting by Dennis Velco

General Info
Fine Arts Finger Paintings by the artist Dennis Velco. In my art work, I finger paint acrylic onto canvas. I don’t use brushes or other tools in the traditional arts painting approach. They make me feel disconnected from my work and hinder my creative energy flow to the canvas. The paint’s own texture, viscosity and volume at the time of each stroke influences the outcome as it rolls off my finger and hands onto the canvas to be fixed in place on the final artwork. Most paintings take 2 - 3 months to complete because after applying each layer of paint I wait for it to fully cure (dry) before applying the next layer of paint.I create individual works of art that are their own, yet can also be placed next to one another or in a series and be interpreted with a deeper and richer context and dialog. Every viewer brings their own life’s teaching, history, prejudices, attitudes and views that I collectively call "filters". My attempts are to speak provocatively yet neutrally, leveraging these filters, to evoke the full spectrum of emotions and an opportunity for thought, dialog and insight. In my art I leverage symbolism in form and color in many of my artworks hoping to touch the viewers beyond beauty. I consider my artwork to be Energy Art in that I do not strive for realism or even necessarily a exact replica of the many referential photographs I take. Rather I strive to capture the essences of the moment, the feeling and the energy representing that through color that the viewers own eye and brain must assimilate in their own way, thus allowing the viewer to leverage their own above mentioned filters to interpret the artwork in a way that best connects with them.I strive to be known as a Fine Art Finger Painter first and foremost. That is why my current paintings and planned art spans landscape, seascape, animals, people, florals and abstracts as subject matter. I strive to create a strong sense of painting style that no mater the subject matter the art appreciation community may be able to recognize my work by my method and style of finger painting. This approach allows me the full artistic creative freedom to explore new subjects and further develop my painting technique – thus not getting pigeon holed into just one subject or “look”. My artwork therefore has been described contemporary Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Abstract, Abstract-Impressionism and more.
