Friends and I were shopping on Saturday and we went by Polly DuPont. Wow what a shock. Polly DuPont was gone and the store was empty. We asked the store next door and she explained that the owner had been in trouble with IRS for not paying his employees or filing his taxes and had not paid rent in months. I was so sad because miy Grandmother had registered there and so had every member of my family including myself. It was a landmark in Dallas carrying high end things like Bacarrat and Herend to cards and gourmet goodies for your kitchen. The ladies who worked there Jan Tiffany and the 2 Amy's were so kind knowledgable and helpful. We all agreed we could have done without the owner and that Steven who were so rude and downright hateful. Sadly karma caught them. I was told they were not paying their employees or vendors and had been in court for this. I am not one to believe or listen to gossip but there are things that run true. And the store owner next door said most of the employees had left because of bounced checks and not being paid at all. This store was truly a legacy store that every bride from the everyday bride to the socialites of Dallas came. We compared it to a small Neiman Marcus Williams Sonoma with high end Hallmark and Macys thrown in for those who might otherwise feel they could not afford it. This older woman who owns a shop there said she was friends with the owners and when one owner bought out another the store never was the same and employees left in mass exodus. I always shopped there for any and everyone and all of my bridal gifts came from there too because they carried every high end piece of china crystal and pots and pans and all else. We had moved away and seen some changes but I never expected this. RIP Polly DuPont. Glad Polly was not here to see the demise of a true landmark of Dallas be destroyed by such a tiny arrogant man who had no business sense. We later met with our friend who said she and her friends had such a pleasant experience until dealing with the owner and his son Steven. They ruined a landmark. Poor Polly DuPont. RIP
