I TOOK MY f-350 to Dan's to fix noise- metal to metal grinding type noise, similar to brake pads worn down to metal. But my brakes are in good condition, so it's probably a bearing or rear end i told them.An hr later they called to say its front wheel bearings.( and also wanted to do ball joints). I said just do the front bearings if that will fix the problem.a few hrs later they said it's fixed and ready to pick up. WHen I got there I asked DAN if the noise was gone. He wasn't too forthcoming at informing me that there was still a noise.WHen I asked about taking it for a test drive (before paying), he wasn't too excited about that. The exact same noise is still there ! Dan said it's probably your TIRES- they are cupped...Hummm... a grinding metal sound is now blamed on tires? If that was really TRUE, and not just a way to explain away their wrong assessment , why didn't they tell me that in the first place, and rotate the tires to fix it? Maybe because it WAS JUST AN EXCUSE... which it was. I know this because I did rotate the tires, and it made no difference. SO I paid $725 f0r new front wheel bearings, which I have the old ones. one is perfect, one has a slight noise, not a grinding noise...So why, if they knew that the noise was still there, did they say it was fixed? WHy didn't they investigate further, to find the source of noise? ( probably because it would have exposed that they fixed the wrong source of the noise the first time around.I have since jacked up the rear end myself, and clearly hear that sound coming from the rear wheels while spinning... The noise is clearly coming from the rear components... It took me 10 min. to determine where the noise was coming from...Dan's is not my normal mechanic of choice.. my normal shop was booked out a week. so I thought I'd give them a chance since they are close, and the noise was getting worse. Years ago I stopped using them when I paid for a new brake caliper they said was causing uneven brake pad wear. A couple thousand miles later, I had the EXACT SAME uneven wear, trashing another set of pads... Seems they miss-diagnosed that issue as well... Of course it could have been cupped tires I suppose...Dan, who did the latest work, just didn't seem too concerned about taking pride in his work, and getting to the bottom of where the noise was coming from. More concerned with getting paid for his time and parts he did install, even though it didn't fix the issue that I brought it in for... putting profit before integrity.... Certainly not professional....Ron
