True Value Company, formerly known as TruServ Corporation, is a cooperative comprised of member owners who are entrepreneur-retailers. The company is a family of approximately 6,200-plus stores in nearly 55 countries, with more than 10 regional distribution centers and 3,000 associates. The history of True Value began with John Cotter. The founder of True Value worked in a retail store beginning at age 12 and built his experience throughout his next 32 years before creating Cotter & Company. He established the hardware co-op in 1948 with 25 retail members. In 1997, Servistar/Coast to Coast merged with Cotter & Company to form True Value Company. By the beginning of the 21st century, the hardware store had reached more than 6,500 members and achieved more than $2 billion in sales. True Value Company has a location in Denver.
