About Since its inception in 1958, Western Mechanical Incorporated ( WMI ) has built a reputation as the best mechanical contracting company in Alaska. Even the most skilled workforce needs effective, seasoned leadership, and WMI has just that. A long time Alaskan, WMI CEO Jim Desmond has raised his family in Fairbanks, helping to build not only buildings, but a sense of community as well. As in many family managed businesses, Jim's son Mike Desmond now oversees much of the operation as President. His past experiences working alongside his father in the field has given Mike the benefit of a hands on understanding of the business, which, combined with his education and managemnt experience, help to give WMI the can-do frontier advantage.
