The sales staff are attentive and very helpful, but I had two serious problems. The first is that I went home with the wrong size hiking boots. They were on sale and the last pair in the store. I wear a B-width. The saleswoman insisted I wore a D. No. I stood firm. I bought a pair of B-width athletic shoes and hiking boots. When I got home, I discovered the boots were a D-width. The "D" on the box was altered with a line through it to make it look like a "B" and the words "wide/large" were crossed out. When I went back, the manager insisted that NO ONE from Cartan's would have done such a thing, the boots were worn, and that was that. He talked over me and I could barely get a word in. Even worse, the saleswoman, who sold me the shoes, recognized me. Yet, she stood there without saying anything, letting me take the blame for size change on the box. It was completely despicable. The thing is I actually liked the boots and wasn't really that interested in returning them. I just wanted to call to his attention to the deception and check to see if the boots for were safe enough for me to wear on my right foot, which is permanently damaged.I can understand the manager thinking I wore the boots, because I did walk around my house to see how they fit, but I had no reason to change the size from a "D" to a "B". Quite frankly, though, even if I had worn the boots, it should have been irrelevant. The bottom line is that I was intentionally sold the wrong size shoes. Any decent manager would have gone out of his way to apologize and rectify the matter. This was the worst experience I've ever had in a store and, needless to say, it's unlikely I'll return.
