      Virginia Blood Services is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy describes the ways that personally identifiable and anonymous information about our customers is used and our information sharing practices. Virginia Blood Services does not share, disclose or sell any personally-identifiable information (such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, etc.) collected online on Virginia Blood Services web sites with other unaffiliated companies or organizations for marketing purposes outside of Virginia Blood Services Friends and Friends 4 Life programs. Virginia Blood Services collects e-mail addresses from our donors. We use this information to e-mail messages about current standings within the Friends and Friends 4 Life program, news about blood and blood donation and reminders when donors are eligible to give blood. Virginia Blood Services also uses this information to facilitate communications with you through e-mail about scheduled appointment requests. We provide customer lists and other information to third party companies that provide specialized services, such as email message deployment, postal mailing, analysis, and other data processing. These companies work on our behalf and we do not provide our lists or other data to them for their own permanent use. Any customer who receives emails based on the Friends and Friends 4 Life programs may opt-out at anytime by simply replying to the e-mail with the words "unsubscribe" in the subject of the reply message. Virginia Blood Services uses encryption technology to protect certain information sent over the Internet. This encryption technology is called "Secure Sockets Layer" or SSL. SSL is an industry standard that encrypts transmissions between two parties and verifies the web site server you are communicating with. You will notice that the "http: //" has been replaced with "https: //" in a Web site's address. This indicates that you are attached to a secure server using SSL technology.
