Business History
Our Rich Heritage Building a better box from the beginning In 1933, George F. Kress offered a superior alternative for customers using expensive, cumbersome wooden boxes. The motivation was the customer. The vision was corrugated shipping containers. Kress’s focus was on building a better box, whatever it took. In 1948, he built a paper mill to ensure a large, steady supply of paper would reach the Green Bay Box Co. This “reverse integration” is the backbone of Green Bay Packaging’s philosophy, which has also been proven successful for folding cartons and coated label products. Innovation, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to customer service were the foundation of Kress’s organization from the start. Decades later, those same qualities remain the basic fiber of Green Bay Packaging, which now employs more than 3,000 people and consists of 30 divisions operating in 15 states and Mexico.
