He was drawn to the field in part because of the relevance of his biomechanics background to musculoskeletal disorders, prosthetics and orthotics. He pursued his graduate medical education at the Mayo Clinic where he completed an internship in internal medicine followed by a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
