- Urinary Incontinence“DROPPED BLADDER” OR A CYSTOCELE combined with urinary incontinence is a common problem in women. Urologists will do a “sling” procedure or a TVT (Transvaginal Tape) which are only made from synthetic mesh.

- Female Infertility
- ObstetricsSince Dr. Karon still practices obstetrics, it gives her great pleasure to then deliver these babies for our infertility couples.
- Endometriosis“I would never in a million years be able to thank you and your most wonderful staff for all that you have done for me and my family. You have been in our life for over eight years and how blessed we have been by you! Because of you, we are now able to look into the eyes of a handsome 7 year old little boy and a beautiful 4 month old baby girl. And we believe it doesn’t get any better than that! The care that you and your staff have and continue to give to me is undeniably the best there is. I have many times referred to you as my “angel” and I believe that you are definitely that, for you have watched over me and taken care of me so many times. With polycystic disease, endometriosis, and many more issues that we have faced and continue to deal with, the care that I have received from you has definitely been above and beyond your call of duty. We will never forget the late night and weekend visits in the hospital you made to check on us while we were waiting for our special delivery. And for all of the preparation and care that you gave to us to make sure we would be okay. I also will never forget looking up from my hospital bed and seeing Angela coming into the door just to check on me, too. This is only one example to describe much you care about your patients. I am sending a very sincere thank you for the most excellent care in the world. Each time we look at our children, we are reminded of how blessed we really are. Thank you for that opportunity and for the care, love, and support we have received and continue to receive from you and your awesome staff.”
- Labor and DeliveryStress Incontinence is caused by a drop in pelvic support of the urethra and the bladder from: childbirth, lifting and then menopausal weakening of tissues. Treatment is usually surgical.
- UltrasoundDr. Karon practices using traditional, established procedures as well as the newest in technology of robotic surgery, lasers and ultrasound. To find out more and to make an appointment with Dr. Karon, please call (859) 277-3135.
- Robotic Surgery
- LaparoscopyDr. Karon was trained in urogynecology during her residency. She then trained at Duke University with Dr. Visco how to apply these techniques laparoscopically and with the aid and the advantage of the DaVinci robot. Further more she is now using and developing the newest technology in this field using biologic matrix patches instead of mesh. These absorbable matrix patches promote tissue regeneration with the patient’s own stem cells and immune cells. She was the first one in the United States to perform sacrocolpopexy, which is the “gold standart” procedure for pelvic prolapse, using biologic matrix patches. She has pioneered and developed the technique for placement of biologic patches for pelvic prolapse and does it with robotically assisted (DaVinci) laparoscopy.
- BotoxDr. Karon was the first gynecologist in Kentucky to perform Botox injections into the bladder, which is now well covered by insurance companies and is a quick outpatient cystoscopy procedure. Patients have great results that last for more than 6 months.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryMagdalene Karon, MD is a graduate of Rice University in Houston, TX with a B.S. in Biology/Biochemistry and a B.A. in Literature, magna cum laude. She attended the University of Texas Medical School- Houston and earned her postgraduate training in OB/GYN at University of Texas Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Karon is Board Certified in OB/GYN and a Fellow of American College of OB/GYN. She is a member of 11 professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Urogynecologic Society, Kentucky Medical Association, Fayette County Medical Society and American Fertility Society. Her specialty interests include infertility, microsurgery, laser surgery, hysteroscopic surgery, ultrasonography and advanced laparoscopic surgery.
- LesionsOne of the main causes of infertility is endometriosis. Fortunately it can be diagnosed and treated with outpatient laparoscopy, after which most of our patients will conceive within the first 6 months. Laparoscopy if done with the optics of the DaVinci robot, can very precisely visualize and not miss any of the subtle lesions that can effect the function of the tubal fimbia in the way it interacts with the ovulating ovary. In addition to the robotic precision we also have a special Revelex laser that removes the endometriosis and adhesions and fibroids without causing thermal damage to the surrounding healthy tissues.
