      I think of psychotherapy as a tool for self-exploration, extending to new awareness of inner-self, while branching out to new understanding and clarity of our surroundings; more positive relationships, and trust of others. It is a guide to feeling and keeping safe while detaching from emotional pain. Psychotherapy can be structured in a variety of ways to address such interpersonal communications, social skills, internal interactions and the quality of attachments. Psychotherapy can also be modified to suit children, adolescents or adults of various age groups, while focusing on cognitive and behavioral conflicts, often related experiences of past traumatic events.When a child has been affected by a parent's traumatic experiences, conjoint sessions between parent and child is a successful intervention. In using this treatment model, the child begins to understand the parent's problem and how that problem has affected the parent's behavior.
