- Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services provides a comprehensive system of child protection programs to ensure that children grow up safe, physically and emotionally healthy, educated and in permanent homes. Its improved permanence program shortens the timeliness for permanency for children removed from their families, with a particular emphasis on reunification, kinship and adoption. The department s improved safety program aims to reduce the recurrence rate of abuse and neglect for children, and reduce the rate of abuse in foster care. It also offers programs to reduced reliance on detention through expansion of alternative community-based strategies. The department s program services also include American Indian Child, Medical Placement Unit, Minor Parent-Teen Pregnancy Disincentive, Black Family Investment, Public Health Nursing, Central Los Angeles Sexual Abuse Unit, Rites of Passage, Child Sexual Abuse, Runaway Adolescent and Deaf Services Unit programs.
