Life's problems, simplified.

General Info

Catalyst Mental Health was founded in 2011 by David Townes, but the idea for the business dates back to late 2007. Early in his career, David realized that a lot of the dysfunction he saw in the lives of his clients was due to the fact that they had delayed seeking any sort of help until their problems were completely beyond their control. Recognizing the damage that could have easily been prevented, David subsequently committed himself to figuring out how to make mental health services more appealing to those in need of them. To get some fresh ideas, he also enrolled in a part-time MBA program at the University of Minnesota in 2008. Shortly after finishing his MBA in 2011, David launched Catalyst Mental Health as a solo private practice to test out some of his new ideas in the marketplace. By late 2012, David's practice was being contacted by more interested clients than he had time to handle, so he started hiring more therapists in 2013. Catalyst Mental Health will likely continue to grow and expand over the next couple of years as these new additions start applying their talents toward the founder's mission.

Services / Products
Catalyst Mental Health provides creative, intelligent, and dynamic services that empower people to realize their full potential. Research has repeatedly shown that the single largest factor impacting treatment outcomes is not a provider's treatment methodology or theoretical orientation, but rather the quality of a client's relationship with their individual service provider. Catalyst Mental Health consequently works with each client to design a carefully researched yet highly customized program that fits their unique needs. All of the services provided by Catalyst Mental Health are delivered at the outpatient level of service intensity, which means that sessions typically last approximately 50 minutes and occur once a week. However, session duration and frequency may vary depending on client needs, with a maximum of approximately three hours of services per week. We also provide formal chemical dependency assessments, and we recently added telehealth services a well.

Amenities
Clinical specialties vary somewhat from provider to provider, but we are most well known for helping people break out of compulsive/impulsive behavior patterns. This includes traditional obsessive compulsive disorder, but also a wide variety of "behavioral addictions," such as compulsive use of pornography and the internet, compulsive spending and hoarding, and compulsive use of drugs and alcohol (the "mental" side of chemical dependency). Since compulsive behavior is frequently just one small part of a much larger diagnostic picture, we also help people with a constellation of problems that are frequently associated with compulsive/impulsive behavior, such as attention deficit disorder, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, sexual disorders, gender identity disorders, borderline personality disorder, and obsessive compulsive personality disorder. While there are no age restrictions on any of our services, the majority of our clients are either adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, or seniors. Demographic and cultural specialties vary somewhat from provider to provider, but all of our providers value a diversity of beliefs and faith traditions. All of our providers are also open and affirming friends of the LGBT community.
