- UltrasoundDays #3 to 5 – During these visits to the office, Dr. Szachowicz follows protocols to speed the resolution of the swelling. Ultrasound therapy is used to stimulate the micro-circulation. Additionally, light therapy, consisting of the red/orange frequencies of light, is used to stimulate the healing. Home therapy consists of Arnica montana cream to any sites of swelling or bruising, which has been shown to accelerate e the body’s rate of healing.
- MRIThe cheek implant is placed and held in position with one small bone-compatible screw. This screw will not interfere with future X-rays or MRI scans. The incision is closed over the implant using absorbable sutures.

- General SurgeryIn the spring of 1993, Dr. Szachowicz donated much needed surgical services in the capital of Croatia, the city of Zagreb. Dr. Szachowicz was part of an international faculty of academic surgeons as part of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s “Face-to-Face” outreach. This educational mission was funded by the Lira Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic Croatian group. Overwhelmed by the severity and volume of war injuries in the Balkan War, The Croatians doctors needed and intensive educational update on the treatment of facial trauma. In just two weeks, nine American and Swiss surgeons performed over 60 teaching surgical cases. A portion of Dr. Szachowicz’s casework was at the children’s hospital in Zagreb.
- Minimally Invasive SurgeryOf all approaches to surgery to lift the forehead, one of the most common is the endoscopic approach. Many people are familiar with other minimally invasive surgery now done through small incisions with the aid of tiny telescopes and instruments. Endoscopic surgery on the brow begins with only four small incisions hidden within the hairline. Using lighted telescopes, a monitor, and specially designed instruments, structures of the forehead and brow are released, starting from the hairline all the way down to the bony rim. The muscles responsible for frowning are then surgically weakened. Structures of the eyebrows and forehead are now ready to be elevated to create a height and shape to the brow that are more youthful, and to open the appearance of the entire region around the eyes.
- Ear SurgeryMen typically have shorter hairstyles, so the ears play a prominent part in their look. Ear surgery for protruding ears often happens in childhood, but many men only recently recognize that something can be done to “pin their ears back.” Casual observers can easily appreciate when the ears appear prominent, even by a quarter of an inch.
- OtolaryngologyHere Dr. Szachowicz is shown graduating from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a prestigious academic award for excellence in medicine. Dr. Szachowicz then joined the MD-PhD program at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Otolaryngology. This is a time of his life when the degrees kept on coming.
- Reconstructive SurgeryHe went on to do a year-long fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery through the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. With all his qualifications, Dr. Szachowicz was nominated and elected as a Fellow to the American College of Surgeons (FACS), after his surgical cases were reviewed by his peers.

- Eyelid SurgeryUpper eyelid surgery begins with marking the incision in the crease of the upper eyelid with the patient sitting in an upright position. Any protrusions of fat are outlined at this time as well.
- LiposuctionIn young people, there may be early relaxation of the supporting structures of the neck combined with fatty accumulation. Very frequently, the chin prominence may be weak. Facial liposuction alone may be of benefit, and the minimal excess of skin created will retract. This result should maintain for several years and may be even more enduring if a chin implant is added if needed. Facial liposuction is minimally invasive, in that it can be performed through small stab incisions made behind the earlobes and under the chin.

- BlepharoplastyA small implant holds the raised eyebrow in the desired position until healing is complete and is then absorbed naturally by the body. This procedure is warmly accepted by people who already feel that they have too much skin on the upper eyelid and want more complete rejuvenation near the eyes than is offered by just a routine blepharoplasty. Recovery is similar to that for surgery on the eyelids alone.
- Nose SurgeryFacial plastic surgery is an art form, and aesthetics for men are not the same as for women. From facelift surgery to nose surgery, men are unique. Our procedures and treatments for men are tailored to align with a masculine identity and natural look, with nuances that are truly just for men.
- OtoplastyOtoplasty is the name given to surgery for prominent ears. Prominent ears are a common condition, where the normal pattern of shaping and folding of the outer ear does not take place. - Forehead LiftAsymmetry is common with the eyes and the eyebrows. It’s important to understand that some measure of asymmetry will remain after surgery. Most people are surprised to realize how the position of the eyebrows influences the amount of excess skin in the upper eyelid — the more the brow sags, the more excess skin accumulates around the upper eyelid. Many times, surgery on the upper eyelids and a brow lift (forehead lift) are performed at the same time for optimal results.
