DON'T RENT HERE!!!

I lived at Edgewater Plantation for nearly two years. All in all I really enjoyed living there. The manager and staff were great, however that all changed when management and ownership changed in early 2012. The original contract was decent and although it had a penalty for breaking the contract it was no different than your standard contract and was certainly acceptable. They assured me the second contract was similar to the first, but you'll have to read closely to identify the drastic changes. I was transferred for work and had to give notice. It was then that I realized how different the contracts were. I had to provide a minimum 60-day notice (no exceptions), then I was charged a huge penalty for each of the 8 months left of my 12 month contract (beyond any savings I received during the contract). I was only able to give the 30-day notice, so I cleaned the apartment thoroughly hoping to fulfill the original terms and get some leniency. I am now being charged for an additional months rent, nearly $1500 in penalties and ridiculous charges for "damage" they said I did to the apartment.

BE WARNED!! This place will do what they can to get you in with incentives, then once your first term is fulfilled will change the terms to benefit themselves. This action only gives you two options. A.) Sign their ridiculous terms and hope you don't have to move. B.) Don't sign pack up your stuff and plan on replacing all the carpets, and paying for all other items they judge "damaged". Beware of the new management and their deceptive practices. I've rented many places over the past 10 years and this was by far the most deceptive staff and contract process I've experienced. To top it all off this complex is located at an extremely dangerous storm surge area on the Wando (Bend at Port/Bridge). You will be forced to evacuate this complex before nearly every other location in Mt Pleasant. Email me if you want any more information facilityguy06@gmail.com.
