- General Info
- The Aging in New York Fund, Inc is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older New Yorkers and their families. Through public/private partnerships, the Fund seeks resources to develop innovative service models that address the unmet needs of New York City's elderly, their caregivers, and the network of aging services providers. The Fund's inception and history are rooted in creating public/private partnerships that support model projects resulting in self sustaining, stand-alone programs or that are absorbed into the existing network of community services. Founded in 1983 by then NYC Department for the Aging ( DFTA ) Commissioner, Janet Sainer, the Fund was established to tackle the issue of delivery of meals to homebound seniors on weekends. Bringing together public and private support, a demonstration project was implemented resulting in CityMeals on Wheels, which spun off and became the prototype for programs across the country.
