- General Info
- Who We Are Established in 1998, urban university is a non-profit organization with the mission to improve the socio-economic status of low-income individuals by delivering workforce development training, coaching and employment opportunities. Launched in 2009, urban furniture is our new social purpose enterprise that is the home of Single Parents at Work, urban university’s new education and transitional employment program for single parents transitioning from public assistance in Alameda County. As a social enterprise, urban furniture is our new business model designed to achieve an important social purpose: education, employment and empowerment for single parents in Oakland. What We Do At urban furniture we provide quality used furniture and home decor for great prices and at the same time focus on our central mission; improving the socio-economic status of single parents. When you walk in our store, you will be greeted by one of our parents who receive professional development training, coaching and safety net services. Because quality donations are key to the achievement of our mission, we take quality used furniture (desks, tables, nightstands, etc) and home décor (china, art, vases, baskets, mirrors). Located in the heart of the Grand Avenue/Lakeshore district – drop by and see the power of your donation.
