In 1943, Paul Saunders arrived in in Richmond VA, from the mountains of Franklin, North Carolina. He began roofing with his brother, Frank Saunders, who had a roofing company in Richmond. Paul continued roofing under his own name for 50 years, until his death in 1982 while working on a roof at the age of 81. Paul was known for his skill working with slate and tin. Business was generally located in the West End and Fan districts of Richmond. His love of roofing, craftsmanship, and a job well done were among the reasons the present company continued to exist under his name. Graham B. Aston, Paul Saunders' son-in-law, presently owns the company. Twenty-three employees currently work Paul Saunders Roofing Company. These men and women handle the management, sales, office, and field duties. Although most of the company's work is centered in Richmond, Paul Saunders Roofing does travel to surrounding communities such as Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Petersburg to handle roofing projects. Graham B. Aston moved from England in 1982 to work with Paul and take over management of the company. In the years that the company has been under Graham's administration, it has grown substantially, and is now a successful, growing roofing company. Paul Saunders Roofing Company employs only first-rate workers. It is our practice to accept only the top personnel within our trade. This enables us to have a superior work force that is notable a cut above others in our industry. Some of the reasons we attract good personnel are the wages and benefits paid. Paul Saunders Roofing operates on a profit-sharing basis, which keeps every member of the company conscious and aware of both their job and the costs of mistakes on the job. Graham Aston, president of Paul Saunders Roofing, is also the president of Horizon Roofing and his involvement carries the same commitment to quality and professional workmanship in Horizon as it does in Paul Saunders Roofing Mike Parker is the General Manager of Horizon Roofing. Mike has over 32 years of experience in the roofing industry, and has owned and run several successful roofing companies, dealing with all aspects of roofing. Mike's commitment to quality and professional roofing has proved to be a huge asset in this market in these days of unknown workmanship and management within the roofing industry. Horizon Roofing Horizon Roofing started business on January 1, 1998. The company was formed as a separate entity from Paul Saunders Roofing: a roofing company in its own right, Horizon specializes in shingle, cedar shake, and metal roof systems. Horizon Roofing started solely with the reputation of Paul Saunders Roofing to help it along, but has grown quickly over the years, as more and more customers refer us as their roofing company of choice in the shingle/cedar shakes market.
