Dear Yellow Cab,



On 15 February, I took one of your taxis from Dunnwoody train station to my home. I live very close, and the meter usually records a fare of $6.50, but because of the short distance I always give the driver $10.



I have been taking a taxi from this station to my home almost every month for the past 5-10 years, and I always pay the same, even when I call a taxi to take me to the train station. But the last time I got in one of your taxis that had been waiting outside the station, the driver switched the meter that ended up recording a $21 fare. When I saw the meter moving very fast, I questioned the driver. He was rude, and told me he could charge any price he wanted, and he was doing me a "favor" (because he had to wait at the station long time before he could get a customer). I told him that his meter was out of line, but he continued to be rude and insulting, asking me to read something posted inside the window on the passager's side about his right to charge any price he felt like, and telling me how much taxis in Chicago and NY charge.



I have seen some other Yellow cabs that advertise on the doors the normal rates for Atlanta, which was the reason I did not even questioned the driver about the fare before getting inside the taxi. For your information, the practice of advertising one price and charging another violates Federal Trade Commission's law, and I intend to make the local FTC office aware of your practice.



In the meantime, you may want to rethink of the consequences the driver of TX 3433 could have on your company's business, if he kept doing the same to other customers, as he did to me.
