- Braille Institute, founded in 1929, is a private nonprofit organization offering integrated educational, social and recreational programs and services to people who are blind and visually impaired. It offers in-home programs for parents of blind infants and toddlers, and helps to admit blind children in community preschools. The organization offers job counseling and referrals and support services for children and young adults between the age of 6 and 30. It also offers adults more than 200 classes in adaptation to sight loss and attaining independence, as well as many recreational subjects. Braille Institute operates mobile solutions vehicles that travels and offers its services throughout Los Angeles, and San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties in California. The institute has locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Rancho Mirage and Anaheim, Calif.
