Stay away from this place!!! Moe the owner advertises smog check 29.95 in the phone book. I confirmed this price over the phone before I went there. Then when I arrived the price immediately became 39.95 + certificate (49.95) . He also advertises he beats competitor prices. I pointed out the ad in the phone book right above his for Casey's garage in Goleta for 48.95 out the door. He convinced me that the time and gas would not worth the 1 dollar difference, which is true, but still how is that a matching. Anyways, my car never failed smog before. He failed the "Visual inspection" part because a rubber vacuum elbow running to the fuel rail regulator had a crack in it.. Maybe He cut it himself while I was not looking. Well, I think this has nothing to do with the smog check itself, and all measurement results passed, plus he could have warned me before he started the procedure that this will fail because his ad also says " We make every effort to pass the car for the first time". Then he offered repair and retest for $75. I told him the repair is so easy I could do myself and the part is about $1.99 in the autozone store right across the street. Most places also offer free retest. I asked him and he denied this. He forced me to agree to this repair, trying to lie to me that this is a dealer only part, which might not be in stock, and it is Saturday, so it would take days to special order it and so on. After being pressured I ended up signing the repair order. I was so mad I could not believe this guy is allowed to conduct business at all. He pulled the part off his shelf and the repair was done in about 3 minutes. He still charged me 15 for the part and .7 hours of labor. I ended up paying $120 including tax for a simple smog check. I advise anybody to stay away from this place. He relocated form the La Cumbre gas station to his new place on Milpas last December, no wonder why. I am considering filing a complaint at the Better Business Bureau as well. In retrospect I should have left right away when he initially hiked up the advertised price. It was a warning sign, I should have listened to my instincts.
