I love this place! Others may have had their own problems but we didn't. A friend and I stayed 2 nights for my birthday weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, beds smelled fresh. I've stayed in a few higher priced hotels that have that musty smell so I always bring Febreeze. I didn't even need it. After a day of sight seeing, you have to visit their Tiki bar. The bartenders made us THE best drinks! Granted there were some things about the hotel that looks like the 70's, but when you drive around Sarasota, there are a lot of things that look like they're from the same decade. But I didn't go to Sarasota to spend all my time in the hotel. With so much to see in Sarasota, The Golden Host Resort is the perfect place to stay. It's located between Ringling and the Jungle Gardens and not far from St. Armand's. Everything you would want to see is located in extremely easy driving distance. I'm certainly using this hotel again when I come back for a return visit!
