This place put is in quite an ...

This place put is in quite an awful position. I'd stay well away if I were you.

We adopted a female cat last February. We were told she would want to be an only cat - which was fine, even though we were initially considering a pair - and, importantly, that she was spayed. She was not only not spayed, she was in fact pregnant when we adopted her. We never let her out, and we don't have another cat, so there is no way she could have gotten pregnant in our care. When we contacted CAT, they were extremely skeptical...I would be too! But even after receiving overwhelming evidence supporting our claim, both first-hand and from our vet, they were reluctant to help out. They told us we would need to surrender ALL of the kittens at six weeks or bring her in to have the kittens aborted. WOW. We know it is hard to find homes for kitties, but we found this attitude astonishing given the circumstances. We refused the "offer" and allowed our new kitty to birth and raise her kittens in our home until they were an appropriate age to be separated. However, we let the shelter know that we expected them to provide spay/neuter for the lot, and they reluctantly agreed, though they were clearly not happy with our decision to avoid their "assistance."

It seems that for whatever reason, nobody over there has ever written any of this down. It is incredible to me how many times we have had to explain this entire situation to CAT, and how many times it was met with outright refusal to help or with suspicion. Eventually, they took care of surgery for the mama cat and two of her "kids," though both kittens developed complications and needed to be brought to our vet for urgent care. Do NOT let the surgical team at CAT ANYWHERE NEAR your own feline friends. Whoever it is does not seem able to perform routine surgery or even properly detect whether or not a cat has been spayed. Now we have three cats (two were adopted by friends). We have all bonded with the kittens, and they with us, but the mama cat is clearly extremely unhappy that she is no longer the only cat. She doesn't "fit" here anymore and she knows it, and it is getting worse as her kids grow up. So, we are stuck trying to find her a new home and there is no chance in hell we will turn to CAT. Truly a (very expensive) nightmare. Avoid at all costs, and send your donations to more deserving shelters.

The best decision I ever made!

One of our Mother Cats came down with Cold&Flu and it was on a Sunday we had to take her in.The doctor on duty didn't waste any time in taking care of her. And they cared for Chocalte Chip Cookie at night as well as day time also. And brought her out of this horrible Cough she had. When she was well they found a home for her because we wanted to find a good home for her any way.And the BEST THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THAT THEY ARE A NO KILL SHELTER THEY keep theCats until they can find a Good Home for them and they screen everyone out before the cat ever goes to the new home. And they do a follow up with each one of them for several months.Sincerely YoursBeverly
