Wilkins, Jr. She graduated with Honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Jennifer then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated in 2001. She went to work for the Honorable Trey Gowdy, who was then the solicitor of the Seventh Judicial District, which covers Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. Her family relocated to North Carolina, where she was a state prosecutor for a year and then served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina. As a federal prosecutor, Jennifer handled complex federal investigations into international drug trafficking organizations and money laundering operations. She returned home to South Carolina in 2016 and was tapped by Solicitor Barry Barnette to run his multi-jurisdictional domestic violence initiative. She also handled federal gun prosecutions as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of South Carolina. She won the John Justice Community Leadership Award in 2017. During her time as a prosecutor, Jennifer tried hundreds of cases to verdict, including complex federal drug cases, money laundering, murder, attempted murder, sexual assault, domestic violence, child pornography, and DUI.

- HomicideSteve Denton was formerly a narcotics and vice squad officer in the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department. He worked his way into homicide investigations before he retired from law enforcement. He retired from law enforcement as a captain over the investigations division, supervising well over 100 detectives. He has maintained very important law enforcement contacts throughout the state based on his experience. At the age of 43, he went to law school, ventured over to the other side of the courtroom, and now represents defendants.

- Workers CompensationRecently, I spoke to a gathering of lawyers, insurance adjusters, and several of the Commissioners from the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission on the topic of brain injuries at the South Carolina Workers Compensation Educational Association’s Medical Conference in Greenville, S.C. There are numerous types of brain injuries that range from the most severe and totally debilitating, to milder injuries from which there is a quick recovery and no apparent permanent effects. In my practice, we deal with numerous head/brain injury cases in workers compensation, as these injuries can happen in all types of work settings.
