My mother went to Dr. Patel (Statesboro, GA) for some issues she was having with her hand... had spilt coffee on herself (and had some shaking in her arm after the spill) and was having issues doing everyday things (like dressing, etc.). He diagnosed it as Carpel Tunnel and gave her wrist braces to sleep in and to wear as much as possible. Please note that Mom had no trouble with her hands at all prior to this visit in April 2014. Mom came home and wore her wrist braces, but her hand did not get any better. I kept insisting that she get an MRI/CT scan as it had to be something more. She went back to Dr. Patel in late-April/early-May and he told her that she needed to "be patient" and seemed really irritated she'd came back to him. He told her to not come back until August when her check-up appointment was. Mom was so frustrated and had decided that she just couldn't live like this so we went May 8th for a pre-op appointment with a doctor in Reidsville and were set for Carpel Tunnel surgery on May 12th (Mom's hand had completely curled in at this point..."an obvious sign of a neurological problem" is what my OBGYN said when I was telling her Mom's story). However, on May 9th Mom took several falls and we went to the ER in Savannah where we finally got that CT scan. The CT scan revealed that Mom had a mass on her brain. We were scheduled the next morning for an MRI and surgery followed on May 13th. Mom was diagnosed with GBM Stage 4. Mom is currently under Hospice care (now February 2015) due to this VERY aggressive brain cancer. I truly believe that if Dr. Patel would have paid closer attention, listened to his patient, and allowed the MRI/CT scan (which Mom's insurance said they'd pay for if the doctor would write the order) that my Mother could have enjoyed the time that she's had with us more. But, she has basically been paralyzed in her left hand/arm and partially in her left leg because the cancer progressed so rapidly due to it not being caught early enough. Oh... and the shaking when she spilt her coffee was a seizure (also associated with the tumor pressing on her brain). All the tell-tell signs, but nothing from Dr. Patel.

Great doc!

Dr. Patel is very compassionate and is there when you need him. He is very thorough and follows up on his patient very well. I highly recommend Dr. Patel if one needs a neurologist.
