Founded in 1825, Western State Hospital, formerly known as Western Lunatic Asylum, is a health care system that offers a range of medical care services. The hospital maintains pharmacy, behavioral medicine, psychology, and environmental, dental, nursing, physical and nutritional services departments. It also offers risk management, social, rehabilitative and X-ray services. Western State Hospital also provides services that include recreational, occupational and physical therapies. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission. It is located in Staunton, Va. Western State Hospital provides health care services to individuals with mental illnesses, mental retardation and substance abuse needs
