The Sumner Police Department provides law enforcement services to the citizens of the city of Sumner, Wash. The department maintains a criminal investigations division that handles death case, felony and sexual offense. The Sumner Police Department also operates patrol and administration divisions. It organizes various community policing and neighborhood watch programs. The department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program and provides animal control services. The Sumner Police Department maintains the Citizens Academy that provides training programs and classes related to firearms instruction, criminal and civil law, adult and juvenile court systems, defensive tactics and patrol procedures. It also supports Help End Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.), which is a vehicle registration program that helps in the identification of stolen vehicles. The department provides crowd and traffic control services for various events, parades and programs.
