- Sports MedicineSports physicals are a bit different than annual checkups, although both involve a physical examination and a medical history review, and both are designed to identify health issues before they progress into serious problems. The focus of a sports physical, however, is to specifically screen for conditions that could increase the risk of injury or illness during physical activity.
