General Info

Maynard Dixon is considered to be the premier artist of the American West. His ability to capture the West and its inhabitants, in a nonjudgmental and honest way, has left an indelible legacy. Located in Tucson Arizona, the Maynard Dixon Museum (the only museum solely dedicated to the lifework of Maynard Dixon) has succeeded in that goal. Over a hundred pieces of artwork including paintings, drawings, and ephemera are on exhibit. The Dixon Museum, housed within Medicine Man Gallery, is a treasure trove for those who love Dixon. On view is his original easel with its Pollock like surface, that succinctly captures a fifty-year time frame of innate color sensibilities. Works by Dixon's last wife , Edith Hamlin, are also represented in the museum collection. For the bibliophiles, original books, magazines, and sunset magazine covers are on display.Maynard Dixon is considered to be the premier artist of the American West.
