Provided by YP.comIt's off the beaten path and the hordes that descend upon the Smithsonian don't often venture away from the Mall, but they should, because Hillwood is well worth the trip. On the other hand, the smaller crowds make a day at Hillwood far more enjoyable for the rest of us. Hillwood is a mansion, the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, heir to the Post Cereals fortune. In the 1920s through 1973, she ran her business, toured the world, hosted the richest and most politically powerful people in the world, and amassed an incredible collection of fine antiques, jewelry, and art, including one of the finest Russian art collections in the world. Now it's all on display at Hillwood where you can also tour a greenhouse full of orchids, several sculpted gardens and have lunch (or high tea!) in their cafe. Just a short walk from the Van Ness Metro stop. Hillwood - where fabulous lives!
