Whether you are contending with this issue due to a divorce, or a post-divorce situation, or as an unmarried parent, the legal counsel you will find at Rutkin, Oldham & Griffin can prove to be invaluable. Our family law firm is a leader in this field for clients throughout Connecticut. In fact, Attorney David Griffin was the co-chair of the most recent Connecticut Child Support Guidelines Commission. We are well-known and highly respected for our strong history of effective case representation both at the settlement table and in court.
- Child Custody and VisitationCustody and visitation arrangements are often difficult and emotional issues between parents. Hopefully, every parent’s goal is to provide a loving and stable home for their children. But, differing views or values can lead to anxiety over how separate households will affect the parent-child relationship.
- Premarital AgreementHigh-asset divorce cases typically involve substantial assets and property of various types. These cases require an in-depth understanding of the complexity of each client’s circumstances. Lacking a valid prenuptial agreement, the court may consider any and all assets subject to division, no matter how they are titled or held.
- Spousal SupportAlimony typically comes into play when divorcing parties earn vastly different incomes. The Connecticut Judicial Branch Law Libraries provides a guide to this issue. This summary reports that “the generally accepted purpose of alimony is to enable a spouse who is disadvantaged through divorce to enjoy a standard of living commensurate with the standard of living during marriage.” It also states that alimony is “money a court requires one spouse to pay the other spouse for support before and/or after the divorce is granted. If you do not ask for alimony at the final hearing, you can never get it in the future.”
- Child AbuseIssues of domestic violence or child neglect that have occurred in the past. This type of history can raise questions as to the physical and emotional health and safety of the child while in the care of the alleged abuser.

- Corporate LawIndia’s interest and passion for family law arose out of her experience working at a law firm in South Carolina during her undergraduate years. She helped the partners prepare for mediation and negotiations and was responsible for drafting and reviewing separation agreements. It was during this experience that India realized the importance of individualized, quality representation in family law matters. Having spent a great deal of time in law school studying corporate law and securities as well as her experience drafting chapters of a corporate finance textbook, India holds a unique knowledge and interest in the financial aspect of high net worth divorce.
- Employment ContractEva has litigated, negotiated, and mediated family law cases, often working with high net worth individuals and families. Her background also includes estate planning and employment contract negotiation and litigation. Her years of experience working with high net worth families in the estate planning context, as well as representing high-level executives in the employment context, gives her a unique understanding of complex assets and compensation structures that other family law attorneys often lack. This enables Eva to advocate for clients in a manner that best protects their assets.
- Medical MalpracticePrior to joining Rutkin, Oldham & Griffin, India gained experience working in a fast-paced litigation firm representing health care providers in the defense of medical malpractice matters. During that time, she handled all aspects of pre-trial litigation, including case development, legal research, fact investigation and motion support. India was largely responsible for discovery oversight, including compliance management and review. She compiled relevant discovery and drafted various discovery motions, including demands and objections relative to discovery requests.
