I dropped off four BMW rims with snow tires on them for a switch-over to new Cooper Zeon tires. When I picked the rims/tires up, one of the rims had a large gouge along the edge. I know the gouge was new because the night before I had waxed/polished the rims to take off the old brake dust and check for any damage. I explained this to the owner and a technician promptly came over to say he did not cause the damage. After arguing back and forth, I realized he only mounted the tire, and someone else balanced it. Clearly the gouge was from some inexperienced person attempting to install a wheel weight on the front of the rim, which the rim was not designed for. The size and distinct marks where the weight would normally attach to the edge was clear within the gouge. Despite this, the technician insisted that he was not responsible for the damage and that I caused the damage because one of the tires had been driven while flat (I did "drive" the tire while it was flat while I was pulling over to change the tire, but only a very short distance). This claim was clearly false because driving on a flat would not cause damage where the gouge was located. Keep in mind, I knew that the rim did not have a gouge before I dropped it off. After the whole ordeal, I felt like they were trying to put me on the defensive like I was making this up. Their solution was to keep the rim for a few days so their insurance person could look at it. I declined, and asked them to take a picture. They promised to have the rim re-finished for me as part of an insurance claim, but that hasn't happened yet. It is a big pain to have to drop the rim back off, wait for it to be refinished, then come back to have it installed. Ultimately, the issue was letting an inexperienced person work on the rim which led to the whole mess. I have done business with them in the past, but never will again. This is your fair warning.
