- Alpha of San Diego is a nonprofit social service agency that does business as Alpha Youth and Family Resource Center. Established in 1972, Alpha provides youth diversion, family problem solving and meets immediate needs for food, housing and other human services. It distributes supplemental food daily to more than 60,000 low-income senior citizens, pregnant women and children under the age of 5, and families and individuals. Located in San Diego, Alpha provides vision screening to more than 3,000 children each year in over 40 city schools and nearly 140 preschools and child care centers throughout San Diego County. The organization also identifies and enrolls children without health insurance and offers its services in assisting them with enrollment in the Healthy Families Insurance program of California. Additionally, Alpha distributes holiday food baskets to nearly 300 hundred families and participates in Toys for Tots by distributing more than 700 toys to children each year.
