Shop needs to learn about tire pressure sensors

Recently I went to this tire shop on a Saturday to have a new tire mounted on the right rear passenger side. My car has tire pressure monitors installed on all 4 wheels. The shop charged $10.00 for the mounting. Following the replacement my incorrect pressure light came on. When I checked the pressure, the tire was way over the required pressure which is 35 psi. I let some air out, but this didn't solve the problem. Later that day I tried resetting the tire pressure monitoring system. It reset, but a warning stayed on. By the end of the week the system gave out and would not reset, and I could not reactivate it. After some research on these new systems, I realized that the tire shop must have damaged the tire pressure monitor. I went back to see Frank the manager. He gave me about 1 minute of his time and advised me to disconnect and then reconnect the battery cables. Upshot of the story--had to spend $400 for a new pressure sensor and a reconfiguration of the system. Unfortunately the tire shop is a semi-streetside operation with cash only and no receipts, otherwise I would be in court in a minute for the damage done. So exercise caution in using this shop if your car has the new tire monitoring system that most vehicles now have.

One who needs an inexpensive good used replacement tire, prices usually include mounting and balancing this is the place. They also have great deals on new tires, rims, and hub caps. The service is great also, for a pair of tires mounted and balanced I don't think I have ever waited more than 15 minutes. I 'm a repeat customer and I'm satisfied with the all around service I get with Colon Tires, so much so I was a resident of Irvington when I started patronizing Colon, I've moved 80 miles away and I still make the time to get there when it's time for tires. Bottom line is if your watching your bottom line like me, as you know auto maintenance can get expensive real quick, Colon Tire will hook you up. Mike D.
